We are excited to kick off the new school year with our upcoming webinar, "Building Inclusive Classrooms: Defending Challenged Books," which features our first TeacherSims title! SchoolSims created this simulation in partnership with Dr. Gretchen McAllister, Associate Professor, Department of Teaching and Learning at Northern Arizona University, and Dr. Hoda Harati, Instructor, Educational Technology at Northern Arizona University (NAU).

The TeacherSims library allows participants to:

  • Engage in challenging topics such as supporting gender diversity.
  • Make mistakes and play without risk to actual students and situations.
  • Gain insights into how their decisions affect stakeholders and then reflect on those decisions using the feedback report.

Our first TeacherSim titleBuilding Inclusive Classrooms: Defending Challenged Books, follows a group of parents who approach the administration to complain about using the book George and My Princess Son in the primary school library, which is available to students of all ages. As a fourth-grade teacher, you've utilized both in an identification lesson at the start of each year. You will need to figure out how to:

  • Address parents' concerns while simultaneously attending to pupils' needs.
  • Determine what message will be delivered if the book is not permitted for pupils vs. parental concerns.
  • Deal with the school board and administration while assisting students in advocating for their interests.

Thank you for your interest in our TeacherSims webinar on Thursday, September 23rd at 3:00 PM EDT with Dr. Gretchen McAllister and Dr. Hoda Harati.
